LURIEAssociate Director PHILIP BERNSTEINThe report which follows is the final step in our transmitting to you the results of the survey which CJFWF undertook at your request in January of this year. It will, I hope, assist the Canadian Jewish Congress as well as the Jewish Federations and other concerned agencies of Montreal and Toronto in establishing a modus operandi for dealing with the problem of settling the Jewish displaced persons whom you so commendably assisted in migrating to Canada during the past two years. The actual work of the survey was carried on by Miss Mary Palevsky, as a member of the staff of our Social Planning Department. Miss Palevsky was selected by Council to make this survey because of her vast acquaintance with this field and her special competence in analyzing large social welfare operations and formulating practical effective means for carrying them on economically and efficiently.Miss Palevsky is currently a deputy executive director of the New York Association of New Americans. Previous to embarking upon this survey she had spent nearly three years in China as a member of the top administrative staff of UNRRA where, among other projects, she worked with the JDC Shanghai office in behalf of the Jewish refugees in Shanghai, many of whom have since come to Canada. Among her other offices, she was a member of the China Relief Mission of the American State Department and served as an advisor for the International Children's Emergency Fund of the United Nations. She has long been known to us as an outstanding social worker and administrator. Her competence, therefore, to make this survey and prepare this report is outstanding.Read automatically; may contain mistakes.
