In several places such as Byalistok, Minsk, Mazowiecki as well as in the Ghetto of Warsaw the Jewish population waged an armed resistance against the Nazi murderers and killed many of them. The Jews then went hiding in the forests. Among the brave fighters who perished in the struggle were Jewish children.A "Forgotten Colony" of Indian Jews, more than eight hundred years old, has been rediscovered by a Jewish chaplain who is working with the American army in India and China. Arriving in India he discovered that some 15,000 Jews in this country had practically no spiritual leaders: no rabbis and teachers who would interest them and were fast being assimilated by other Indian sects. The Indian Jews are mostly chocolate skinned like their fellow countrymen. Most of them are labourers and very poor. The American chaplain has greatly succeeded in his efforts to revive this Indian Jewish community.A very important conference was recently held in New York. The conference was attended by 500 delegates who represented all the Jewish communities in the U.S. All of them came to discuss together the very difficult problems facing the Jewish people all over the world.The voice of the Jewish people was heard at this conference. All the representatives of American Jewry united in their demand that all the nations take measures to stop the persecutions and the murdering of our people in the Nazi dominated countries. This great gathering also decided to help our suffering people in any ways possible. One of the greatest moments of the conference was when a resolution passed demanding that Palestine be declared a Jewish Commonwealth and that the gates of that country be opened for the Jews who long for this land of their ancestors.You undoubtedly know, that aside from public school, over so many Jewish boys and girls go the Jewish schools as well.They study Hebrew and Yiddish. They learn to read the wondrous stories written in our bible and get to know the great heroes of our past. Do you attend Jewish school too? Those of you who go to Jewish School would know immediately what I mean were I to mention the names of our holidays, the songs, celebrations, and happy times that go with them.Those of you who do not attend Jewish School are missing something really fine. Speak to your parents--to-day! Tell them you want to go to Jewish School along with thousands of other Jewish children. They will be very happy to hear of your decision!Ask any of your young friends who attend Jewish School to tell you about a Jewish hero, or the story of Chanukah, and you will hear the beautiful things about your own ancestors which you have been missing. Come with your friends and learn the story of your people.The Canadian Jewish Congress is anxious that all Jewish boys and girls grow up to be good Jews. Think of all the Jewish children in the whole world -- all of them learn Jewish history, celebrate Jewish holidays, sing Jewish songs. What about you?Read automatically; may contain mistakes.
