Dec. 4th. SUMMARY OF CONVERSATION WITH MR. TALLY, GENERALMANAGER OF THE COCA COLA CO.The Le Restaurateur and Le Patriot have accused the Coca Cola Co. to be a Jewish corporation, which poisons the French Canadian community with their products, and they advise their readers not to buy Coca Cola.I pointed out to Mr. Tally that they have a prima facia criminal case, and I pointed out to him that by taking action the Company will receive a favorable publicity that could not be bought with thousand of dollars.Mr. Tally, a southern, assured me that he has never seen nor heard of such scandalous accusations by newspapers without Government interference. He also assured me that he is favorably disposed towards taking criminal action, but that he is waiting, hoping that his apparent ignoring them will enrage them to incriminate themselves more and more. He also told me that their lawyers, the most prominent firm on the American continent amongst whom there is one Mr. Hirsch, are studying the question as to what action they should take.He remarked that usually he has no difficulties of expressing himself on every question, which comes before him, but reading Le Restaurateur, he losses completely his self-control. He also took the same stand that Mr. Lane that under no circumstances would he deny the accusation that they are a Jewish firm, because that would be a reflection on their customers and associates, whom he highly respects. He assured me that if his recommendations are accepted, the Coca Cola Company will certainly proceed very effectively against these newspapers. The interview was arranged by Mr. H. B. Kaufman, of the Montreal Standard, who accompanied me.cjhn.caRead automatically; may contain mistakes.
