Canadian Jewish CongressMANIFESTOTO THE JEWS OF CANADAJews of Canada, support the Canadian Jewish Congress! Vote in the election of delegates!LYON COHEN, Honorary PresidentS. W. JACOBS, K.C., M.P., PresidentA. J. FREIMANEDMOND SCHEUERM. J. FINKELSTEINPETER BERCOVITCH, K.C., M.L.A.E. FRANKELVice-PresidentsH. WOLOFSKY, TreasurerH. M. CAISERMAN, General SecretaryS. BELKIN, Chairman Central Election Committee. After months of preparation the provisional Dominion Executive Committee is proceeding with final arrangements for the convening of the Canadian Jewish Congress on January 27, 28 and 29th, in the city of Toronto. The aims and objects of the Canadian Jewish Congress, the Dominion-wide organization of Canadian Jewry, have been clearly stated in the Platform, which has previously been made public. The Congress will strive to safeguard the civil, economic and religious rights of the Jews, will devote its attention to the inner problems arising out of abnormal and unsound conditions in the cultural, economic and social life of the Jews, will further the development of the Jewish National home, will assist in the organization of World Jewry through a World Jewish assembly, will act in all emergencies concerning Jewish problems, and will combat manifestations of anti-Semitism in Canada. The Congress will create an authoritative body that will be able to voice the sentiments of Canadian Jewry, and would act in all matters concerning them as Jews and as Canadian citizens. This alone is sufficient to make the general assembly of Jewish representatives a turning point in the history of our people in this Dominion. The position of German Jewry, and the growth of anti-Semitism in Canada, which will receive most careful attention at the Congress,—the vital problems, which concern us at the present moment—will also tend to arouse Jewish communal workers in Canada, and the general Jewish public to the importance of the Canadian Jewish CongressThe month of December will be devoted to the clarification of the ideas, which brought about the being that the formation of the all Canadian Jewish organization. In every community preparations will be made for the general election of delegates, which will be held on December 31st, 1933. In those communities where delegates will be elected by representatives of local organizations, special and general meetings of the various local organizations will be called where the Congress agenda will be discussed, and representatives will be appointed to the electoral meetings, which will convene on the last day of the month. We earnestly call upon all Jews of Canada to concern themselves with the Congress problems, and to take part in the election of delegates to the Canadian Jewish Congress by either exercising their right in the general voting, where he'd, or by attending meetings of their organizations, called for the purpose. It is the duty of all Jews residing in Canada to help make the Congress fully representative, to support its aims and objects, and to help in deciding its issues by participating in the election of delegates. We are going through very trying times in the history of World Jewry. The general depression has affected our people more than any other people in the world. We are passing through a most critical period in our history. Our self-preservation lies in organization! In unity is our strength!Hon. Vice-Presidents.Read automatically; may contain mistakes.
