The website of Queen's University Archives is down (for about 8 hours)

Its images and links won't load until it's back. Panarchive shows each image straight from the archive's own website, so when that site is down the picture can't be shown here. Nothing is lost: everything returns once the archive is back up, and we check every few minutes.

Scope & content
Letter: stating that none of the Golden Lake applicants were granted registered traplines. Criticizing the criteria used for allotting traplines. Including proof of occupation of area, permanent residence in area, military service, etc. Information related to the previous use of area by Golden Lake members includes the following: "... we have a farmstead rated above a camp built exclusively for trapping purposes ...". Also stating that "A review of the history of this band as regards trapping will reveal that the territory now comprising the Algonquin Provincial Park was taken from their traditional trapping grounds without compensation to them so the proposal that they now be excluded from all but a small portion of their once adequate trapping lands will certainly be considered by them as a grave injustice and abrogation of their Treaty." Including suggestion of one and 1/2 townships is inadequate, it was judged sufficient to support only 3 white men. Protests the exclusion of band members and the treatment of them as a group rather than individuals. Also indicating that "... we find approved applications of men without military service in preference to Indians with four years' overseas service." Some of the people recommended for traplines were from areas outside the district such as Pembroke, Mattawa, Deux Rivieres and Stonecliffe.
