The website of Queen's University Archives is down (for about 4 hours)

Its images and links won't load until it's back. Panarchive shows each image straight from the archive's own website, so when that site is down the picture can't be shown here. Nothing is lost: everything returns once the archive is back up, and we check every few minutes.

Scope & content
Letter: referring to his letter of Oct. 5 through Indian Affairs requesting that Golden Lake Indians be permitted to take game without license, and responding that "[N]o doubt you are familiar with the value of the tourist trade to the County of Renfrew, which is increasing annually, and the difficulty the Department has in conserving one of the principal tourist attractions, viz., the game and fish of your section." Stating that this should be sufficient reason that the Indians should have to hunt legally under license and in season, as anyone else has to. Also stating that Ontario Gov't authorized sum of half a million dollars to be paid to Indian Affairs "in lieu of any special privileges the Indians might have claimed under ancient treaties." Indicating, therefore, that it would not be profitable or advisable to permit Indians to take game in any way other than under strict regulations.
