Scope & content
Letter: stating that member of band, [name of Golden Lake Band member], went up to Grand Lake Victoria Indian Hunting Reserve in Quebec last Nov., and that sons also went there in Feb. When they were returning home in Mar., they were searched by game warden and he took all their furs and a gun. Stating that he [agent] phoned Inspector of Game Wardens in Shawville, who indicated that he had no knowledge of any Indian Hunting Reserve in that territory and who stated that beaver and muskrat skins are prohibited, while the confiscated fisher, lynx and fox skins are legal. Recommending that necessary steps be taken to have legal furs returned to the man, as he worked hard for them and it is unreasonable to take all his earnings from him. Also indicating that he has his map of Grand Lake Victoria Hunting Reserve and also his "advice to encourage the Indians from here to go up there to hunt and trap ..." and that he advised [name of Golden Lake Band member] "to go up there in the first place." Asking what use it is to send Indians to reserve to hunt, if they cannot use the legal furs they get. Further outlining individual's hardships and asking for his fur back.
