The website of Queen's University Archives is down (for about 4 hours)
Its images and links won't load until it's back. Panarchive shows each image straight from the archive's own website, so when that site is down the picture can't be shown here. Nothing is lost: everything returns once the archive is back up, and we check every few minutes.

- Scope & content
- Letter: re case of [name of Golden Lake Band member] killing 7 deer. States that this is the worst example of lack of appreciation of wildlife. Expresses outrage that the Agent is not only endeavouring to condone this action, but that he also goes so far as to suggest that they should return six of the deer to the Indians who so flagrantly violated the law of the Province. States that under the Treaty of 1923 (Williams Treaty), Indians of Ontario south of the French and Mattawa Rivers have no legal rights other than those enjoyed by a white man so far as game and fish are concerned. States that this wildlife is of greater value as a tourist attraction for clean sportsmen and that it would have been more economical for the Province or the Dominion to have provided relief for these Indians. States that not only will the Department refrain from returning the meat to those who shot the deer, but it will make every effort to see that the law is meted out to those individuals as their case deserves.
