- Scope & content
- Letter: informing that two young Indians from the reserve hunted on private land under lease to a Mr. W. A. McLean, and were fmmd with carcass of a moose and were also accused of having killed. or attempted to kill, beavers. Further indicating that game warden at Maniwaki stated that if the Indians had only been charged with killing the moose, it would have been easy to settle the matter, as the Dept. of Colonization "is not very keen in prosecuting Indians at the present time", but that charge for beavers is more serious. Also reporting that game warden advised that if McLean gave a favourable recommendation on behalf of accused, Indians would probably get favour from Dept. Therefore, asking if Dept. would write to McLean to get his recommendation for suspended sentence for young men or to free them.
