The website of Queen's University Archives is down (for about 2 hours)
Its images and links won't load until it's back. Panarchive shows each image straight from the archive's own website, so when that site is down the picture can't be shown here. Nothing is lost: everything returns once the archive is back up, and we check every few minutes.

- Memo: reclaim of the Chippewas of Lakes Huron and Simcoe, and of the Mississaugas of Rice, Mud and Scugog Lakes for compensation for unsurrendered lands. States that the area south of the height of land comprising 9,759 square miles has not been claimed by any Indians other than the present claimants, stating that their claim goes back to the year 1870. He then states that the Department's records prior to 1870 have not yet been sent to the archives. Page 5 of the 7 page memo refers to the Algonquin claim to land on the Upper Canada side of the Ottawa River but states that from the affidavit of Thomas Marsden it appears that the Algonquin hunting grounds did not extend south of the Mattawa River thus dismissing the Algonquin claim to hunting grounds south of Ottawa River. Recommends some arrangement be made to quiet the title to these unextinguished lands and discusses the legal argument between the Dominion's responsibility here as well as the Province of Ontario.
