- Scope & content
- Letter: responding to his of the 9th. States that the Game Warden or overseer, Mr. Briscoe, may have misunderstood his instructions. Advises Game Warden Briscoe had good reason to believe that the Indians were embarking on a trade in venison and the Department of Game and Fisheries was merely pointing out that the Indians had no right to kill deer off their reserves during the closed season. States that this was done simply to assure the warden that he was justified in preventing the indiscriminate slaughter of game. States that more latitude has to be allowed Indians this year but there is no reason to tolerate waste. Suggests that if the Indians had to obtain a permit when they require meat for their own consumption, it might be a way to regulate their hunting.
