Scope & content
Letter: reclaim of the Mississaugas and Chippewas for compensation. Responding to his of the 16th wherein it is stated "that the Dept. of Indian Affairs have never admitted any claim on the part of the Indians". Hunter disputes this by quoting several letters by various officials of the Department during the years 1870 to 1890. Requests once more if the Department intends to proceed for the Indians to recover compensation for their lands. Refers to the comment by the SOIA that the official papers are available for the interests of the Indians. Hunter states that he will avail himself of this permission as he was denied access during his last visit to the Department.
