Scope & content
Letter: advising that the Mississaugas of Alnwick. Rice and Mud Lakes and Scugog and the Chippewas of Lakes Huron and Simcoe are willing to leave the matter of settlement of unsurrendered lands in the hands of the Dominion Government. Advises that the Chippewas of Lakes Huron and Simcoe say that lands west of the Bobcaygeon Road to the Georgian Bay and between Moose Deer Point and some points in the neighbourhood of Penetanguishene had always been considered as belonging to them. They were not parties to the surrender and the Indians who signed the Treaty acknowledge that they had no claim to this tract of land and did not know that it formed part of the surrender. States that he looked into the matter and the parties to the surrender under the Robinson Treaty had no claim to this land as it had always been the hunting grounds of these Indians and that no other had any right to surrender it. The lands discussed are outside the Ottawa River watershed.
