- Report: reporting on examination of a portion of the unsurveyed region lying between Georgian Bay and the Ottawa River. Gives tabular statement showing relative heights of various lakes of the Muskoka and Petewahweh and others. Reports that Indians of Rousseau Lake [southeast of Huntsville] hunt and trap in an extensive area north from Fairy and Peninsula Lakes [outside Ottawa Valley]. Observes that surveyor's stakes in the area of White Trout Lake (now Algonquin Park) are evidence that timber locations have been projected and states that the lwnber trade has already extended to Cedar Lake. States that farms have been established on Cedar and Trout Lakes and large supplies of squared timber are annually brought down to the Ottawa. (pg. 73) South and west shows Clear Lake as being settled. (p. 78) Advises that lumbering operations have extended almost to Kaijick Manitou Lake which Murray named after the Chief of a tribe of Indians he met there [near present day Purdy] who was of great service by his description of the country at the height of land. (pg. 84) Describes rocks and minerals of whole area. Includes map showing the explorations between the east shore of Lake Huron and the Ottawa.
