The website of Queen's University Archives is down (for about 4 hours)

Its images and links won't load until it's back. Panarchive shows each image straight from the archive's own website, so when that site is down the picture can't be shown here. Nothing is lost: everything returns once the archive is back up, and we check every few minutes.

Scope & content
Report: on visits to settlements and reserves in his superintendency including visit to Algonquins of Bedford in November 1849. Met Chief Peter Stephens (Piershaw-wi-ni-pinessi) at Newborough. Travelled about 18 miles by canoe to their village. No precise location given. Their village consisted of two log houses and some out buildings and was surrounded by lumberers. Anderson proposed to chief that they remove to Manitoulin Island. Stevens would not answer "until he had seen his Brethren. the Chiefs of the Lake of Two Mountains." "Thirty-eight of his people were absent and would not return until the winter ...". Anderson also reported on Mississaguas of Alnwick. Rice and Mud Lake describing their villages, agricultural improvements, schooling, religious leadership, etc. He made no reference to hunting grounds or hunting activities. Anderson also reported on the Chippewas of Lake Huron and Simcoe. While his report focussed on describing the settlements and farming activities he stated that the Chippewas at Snake Island "go out occasionally to hunt during the sununer." He also stated that many of the Chippewas from Rama "had left for their Hunting grounds." Unfortunately Anderson gave no indication of the location of their hunting grounds.
