Its images and links won't load until it's back. Panarchive shows each image straight from the archive's own website, so when that site is down the picture can't be shown here. Nothing is lost: everything returns once the archive is back up, and we check every few minutes.

- Report of Committee of Executive Council: addressing the issue of possible discontinuance of presents and adopting some system of management of the Indians. Twenty-nine page report. (Some of it quite illegible.) Reference is made on page 325 to the Algonquins and Nipissings of Lake of Two Mountains and their claim to the remainder of their hunting grounds on the Ottawa River. States that besides asking for compensation for that part which has been taken from them they wish to be protected in the enjoyment of what remains of their hunting grounds. States that there appears to be no reason to doubt that under the French Government the hunting grounds of these Nations may have covered the whole extent which they now describe and that their right to use it was little disputed. States that their right to compensation was at least in one instance distinctly admitted by Lord Dorchester. The Committee recommends "that a sufficient Tract of Land should be set apart for them in the Rear of the present Range of Townships on the Ottawa River; and that such of them as may from Time to Time be disposed to settle on Land should be located there, and that both they and the rest of these Tribes should continue to receive such Support, Encouragement, and Assistance as may supply the Place of their former Means of Subsistence, and at the same Time prepare and lead them to a state of Independence of further Aid."
