Scope & content
Petition: St Regis Indians have been cutting timber on our lands, and now say that land is theirs. Boundary was established in French times at river at Long Sault; they have brought boundary 18 miles more west. Has been about 10 years since Col. Campbell called us to council to give lands to Loyalists; after long debate we consented to give "the Front of the River"; have received no compensation. The rest of our land is being taken and surveyors are all over the woods. Do not know how we are going to support our families; please pity us and pay us for our lands; if you cannot, stop the surveyors.
