- Scope & content
- Rev. Meldola de Sola, Rabbi of the Shearith Israel, ca. 1910s. The Shearith Israel School had an agreement with the Commission Scolaire Catholique Romaine that recuperated funds paid by Jewish taxpayers (generally well-to-do uptowners who were affiliated with this synagogue). The school in turn lost this privileged agreement in 1892 after the immigrant downtowners at the Baron de Hirsch Free School won the right to a redistribution of Jewish school taxes through the Protestant School Board.
