- Scope & content
- The John W. Peck Shirt and Clothing Factory, Mile End, Montreal, QC, about 1910. The Amalgamated replaced the UGWA as the dominant union for clothing workers in Montreal in 1915-1916. Its first strike was against this long-standing company in July 1916. Its success set off a chain of events including the reestablishment of the Clothing Manufacturers Association of Montreal (then called the Montreal Clothing Manufacturers Association) that fall and later an industry shut down in 1917.
